Autreat 2008: Listen In
Autreat 2008 began yesterday and runs until this Friday: It’s run by the Autism Network International and is a “retreat-style conference run by autistic people, for autistic people and our friends” that “focuses on positive living with autism, NOT on causes, cures, or ways to make us more normal.”
Some of the sessions will be transcribed and will be available for people anywhere to attend via IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Go here to the Autreat 2008 website to find out how to log on and attend talks by two officers of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN), Scott Robertson and Ari Ne’eman.
Also, at 7:30 pm EDT, on Thursday June 26 (23:30 GMT), there will be a discussion session about developing organizational structure and governance, with members of Speaking For Ourselves, a Philadelphia-based self-advocacy organization that has presented at several past Autreats.
Thanks to the organizers of Autreat for making it possible for those of who can’t be there, still listen in and learn.
