“Autism’s Angels” and a “hidden, dark thought”

Town and Country magazine’s August issue contains an article about autism which includes a quite extensive overview of the latest research (especially on the brain, such as recent research from the M.I.N.D. Institute) and on educational programs (a new charter school for autistic children, the NYCA Charter School, is highlighted). The article, by Diane Guernsey, […]

This “eye-catching design for a shopping bag” (as AdBlogArabia describes it) is part of a campaign to raise funds and awareness for the Dubai Autism Center. Bertie Ahern, the Taoiseach—the Irish prime minister—is joining ten volunteers in the charity cycle for Irish Autism Action, according to BreakingNews.ie. The 11-day-long ride—covering more than 1,7000 kilometers (1,056.33 miles)—ends tomorrow in Dublin.
Charlie did the seven-mile course at the Ride for Autism in New Jersey. (Charlie could have gone farther, my husband noted).

Son-Rise Rises Again (2)

What is now called the Autism Treatment Center of America used simply to be known as the “Son-Rise Program.” Based on the program’s philosophy and treatment methods, I gather the program’s name is a play on the word “sunrise”: Thanks to the Son-Rise’s programs methods, an autistic son or daughter can “rise” and “come out” […]
