Center where autistic man was killed can again admit new patients
The Fairfield Center, the southwest Ohio group home where 50-year-old Joseph Beaudoin was killed by his roommate Edward Shuman on February 21, can again admit new patients, as reported in yesterday’s ChannelCincinnati.com. Shuman has been declared incompetent to stand trial and Beaudoin’s family has filed a lawsuit again the center.
The Ohio Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, the Fairfield Center has made required changes after being issued several citations.
The photo above is of Joseph Beaudoin and his mother, and was taken when he was younger.
I posted yesterday about A Better Chance (ABC), which runs group homes for autistic adults in the Bay Area, California. I have not seen either its program or the Fairfield Center’s, but group homes—and the safety and other issues—are things I have to start thinking about, though Charlie is only nine years old.
