Coming Your Way: Too Good by Jenny
Bedding, apparel, feeding products, toys/activity sets, cleaning products, bathroom textiles, gluten-free food and beverages, and all non-toxic, and all at affordable prices: Did someone say too good?
Sorry, “autism mother” and pro-vaccine-safety/anti-vaccine activist Jenny McCarthy already did. According to Technology Marketing, McCarthy has just signed a deal with Los Angeles licensing agency Brand Sense Partners, to “develop a lifestyle brand called Too Good by Jenny, which will be positioned as providing safe, non-toxic surroundings for children.”
Sounds very “green”—-will “non-toxic vaccines” be on the list of future “Too Good” products?
Addendum added 8.35am EST: According to some, there’s nothing more toxic than an autism/autistic blogger.

More junk to buy in the interest of a “green lifestyle”.
We’re not rolling in it, but I haven’t noticed an enormous shortage of eco-friendly options either in town or on the web.
I wonder what her percentage is on the sales?

Not that I’m not completely biased here, but the fact that Jenny stands to make a profit off of this belies her claim that she just wanted to “help.”

Heh… I know I shouldn’t expect a biting wit from Jenny McCarthy, but, come on, was “Too Good” all that the people in marketing could come up with?
That aside, I don’t really care… I mean, it doesn’t harm anyone particularly, I guess. Not exactly a resounding statement of support, but it’s about the best you’ll get from me.

As a mom who used cloth diapers and made my own baby food… oh, and my main cleaning supplies are vinegar and baking soda, oh, and I made my kids baby sleepers from cotton because the flame-proof polyester is so disgusting (by the way, cotton and other natural fabrics do not burn well, they are much safer than polyester which tends to melt on your skin). I make applesauce from my own unsprayed apples (I use nylon socks to protect them from bugs), and raisins from my own unsprayed grapes (I have an edible garden, it includes chard, parsley, oregano, and lettuce that reseeds itself… plus raspberries, blueberries and other fruit).
I also put the one and only stupid copy of sMothering magazine I ever bought into the recycle bin. I also use canvas bags for shopping (I am making several for holiday gifts).
I also believe it is better to practice preventative medicine by vaccinating my children for things like pertussis, influenza, tetanus and pneumonia.
Ms. McCarthy is going to have to work very hard to get any of my money!

There seem to be, at least at our local health food store, Whole Foods, even Trader Joe’s and a pile of places online, but perhaps the difference is the “lifestyle branding” angle–like Harley Davidson, Ralph Lauren, Nike, Ikea, Old Navy, etc. That “what kind of person am I?” thing. Hook or build a demographic through identity-building and leave the possibility of future expansion based on brand name, not specific product(s).
One possibility of how BSP may be looking at this when pitching JMc’s product line, Licensing’s Walk of Fame

HCN mummy and me have obviously been very busy, along with a lot of other parents, previously for the green agenda, more lately for the money savings.
I think my pennies may be better spent elsewhere.

That Age of Autism piece is simply laughable. Crappy “journalism,” full of speculation that the most basic fact checking could have addressed one way or the other. Terrible “science.” How anyone could read even a few sentences and not come away with several examples of logical fallacy, bad writing, poor journalistic practice, and pseudoscience is beyond me. Yet, people seem to read that crap and take it as the gospel.

Well, in the beginning is was for the money savings. Since my baby had seizures and did not get the DPT, but the DT instead he had no protection for pertussis. At that time our county was having a pertussis epidemic.
Because I had to be careful of him being exposed to pertussis, I could not put him in infant daycare. I then calculated how much it would cost to hire a nanny. I figured out that the nanny would be bringing home more money than I would net from being an engineer. So I quit my job, and our household income was cut in half.
I have honed penny pinching to a fine art (which includes not giving business to silly people like Mike the zeolite spammer). We held off getting a car to fit the entire family until after we finished paying for private speech therapy.
