Go Ride a Bike

by Kristina Chew, PhD on October 30th, 2007

Charlie’s backpack has been bulging these past few days: It turns out that someone left a bike, just his size, in his classroom and he has been asking to ride it. Understandably, his teachers did not want to have him do so beyond a few turns in the room until he had a helmet, and we have been packing his helmet in his pack, beneath his lunchbox. Charlie loves being on his bike, self-motoring, getting himself somewhere through his own strength. You can illuminate your bike wheels with this device and project a worthy message: The sight of Charlie’s face when he’s pumping the pedals says something more than words.

Message on the bike wheels? What a great idea! gosh, when we were kids, we would just clothespin a playing card to the spokes to make a cool noise. Oh, now I feel old.

I thought of Charlie the other week. Patrick rode his bike all morning. Stopped for lunch and then rode his bike all afternoon. He’s so happy on his bike.

Thank you, again, for sharing about Charlie.
