Autism Vox

Rated G

by Kristina Chew, PhD on June 23rd, 2007

The sometimes very heated back and forth exchange in a post about the Wright family feud has been noted. For myself, I think some tension inevitable when so much is at stake in regard to certain topics: the ethically loaded question of a possible prenatal test for autism; the “fighting word” that is “cure” (which this doctor, who treats autistic children with chelation, preferred not to use in this 2004 deposition).

So I thought I would assure you all that, in film rating terms, and at the risk of myself appearing as a sort of Pollyanna, this blog is very much family-friendly.

Mine is also rated “G”. I’m proud of that. You should be proud of this — and of so much that you do.

    Smile@G Rating.

Kristina, you’re right about, “alot is at stake”. When you have skin in the game, all posted issues hit home.
For us, our only child requires a great deal of assistance and care. My wife and I, like many of you, struggle sometimes to curtail the amount of colateral damage having a child with low functioning autism can cause. Honestly, some days are better than others, but we still press on. Always looking for a cure. Always looking for a better therapy or school. Never giving up. Trying hard to never give in.
Finding Ms. Chew’s blog has been a lifeline and I take her posts very seriously, each one.
Each story about Charlie reminds me very much of the love my wife and I have for our only child and the ways ,similar to Kristina and her husband, we too have sacrficed to create options for our family.
Dont mean to ramble, but this blog can serve as another great venue to show others how or where to begin the conversation on autism. You know, residing in Washington, DC and knowing a few folks, who are probably lurkers, can be beneficial. You really never know who might be reading these posts. You really dont.
Kristina, keep up the great job! I’m with ya.

it’s funny–I rated the various categories of my blog–the learning disability category was NC-17 (I write about Dick Dalton often enough to get dinged for “dick”), but the current blog entries are PG-13 (I wrote about a gun, and used the word “abortion” twice.

But never mind me–Autism Vox should be rated with five stars.
