  • Jenny McCarthy, Autism Mother
Regan writes on On the “high-functioning” and “low-functioning” “labels”:
“My perspective is that in a single year my daughter was observed and defined as LFA, HFA and ModerateFA. So that’s how much that is worth, in my book. It is much more useful to us to consider specifics relating directly to my daughter and simply go with that.”
    Mandy writes:
“Jenny McCarthy’s son is NOT autistic. More and more, we find kids who are developmentally delayed for a plehtora of complex reasons otherwise NOT related to autism—diagnosed with autism! This must stop. This is hurting familes who are raising with truly autistic children.”
  • Jenny, We Hardly Knew Ye
Marcie writes in response to a suggestion to send McCarthy Jim Sinclair’s Don’t Mourn For Us?:
“Better to send them to Oprah. Though I wouldn’t even think about doing that without Jim’s permission (xe says that xe doesn’t want to be known for *only* that essay).”
  • The Technology of Punishment at the JRC
Dr. Matthew Israel, Executive Director of the Judge Rotenburg Center, comments on an article about the JRC.
  • Robbing From Autism to Give to Herself
Shianne comments regarding the thefts from an autism foundation.

If we are all lucky, some day a movie star will make an appearance on Oprah or Larry King and announce that they have a young adult with autism. They will say how hard they worked to treat their child but that in the end, they love, accept even celebrate their child as they are! Those of us with teens and young adults with autism have struggled, to say the least. But as my twenty one year old autistic son says “Nobody’s perfect. We need all kinds of people in this world.” Amen

It will be good to hear that — Amen, indeed.

Maybe we should hurry up and push our parents to be movie stars. Kristina, you want to try your hand?
