Research on the “neuroanatomical distinction of the autistic brain”
Scientists at the University of California at Davis’ M.I.N.D. Institute have found that the brains of autistic men have many fewer neurons in the amygdala, the region of the brain that plays a significant role in understanding the actions and emotions of others. David Amaral, Professor of Medical Psychiatry of the UC David Center for Neuroscience, led the research, which appears in the Journal of Neuroscience.
Two online reports on these findings:
- Ian Semple in The Guardian
- The UC Davis Health System’s press release is at EurekAlert!
