Sigourney Weaver on outer space and autism
In the following quote in today’s Toronto Sun, actress Sigourney Weaver draws a clear connection between her starring in a science fiction movie (Galaxy Quest) and her playing an autistic woman in Snowcake:
It sounds bizarre, but there is a profound connection between Galaxy Quest, the wacky outer-space farce from 1999, and Snowcake, a serious new film about an adult dealing with severe autism in Wawa, Ontario.
“There is a direct line from wearing a shell head and big boots to these characters, somehow,” a smiling Sigourney Weaver tells the Toronto Sun.
The article suggests that the connection is not between Weaver’s roles as an alien and an autistic woman, but in the actor Alan Rickman, who was first involved with the film.
Still, one wonders……..
