Stolen and Found: Bikes for Jason and Siri

by Kristina Chew, PhD on August 2nd, 2006

On July 25th, Jason Wyatt’s bike was stolen after he had only had it for just over a week (see Who stole Jason Wyatt’s bike?). Jason, who is 14 years old, autistic—and who has no school placement for the fall (see My Son Needs a Proper Education)—does have a bike now, thanks to 70-year-old Bob Deeker giving his mountain bike to Jason, as reported in the Norwalk Evening News 24. Jason, who lives in Hellesdon in the UK, hopes to get a job as a paperboy with his new bike.

In a similar story of stolen and found, the recumbent cycle belonging to 19-year-old Siri Carpenter, who has Rett’s syndrome, was found in an abandoned garage, as reported in Kare11.com on Monday, July 31st. Siri’s bike was stolen from her family’s Minneapolis garage two weeks ago.

Yes, I make sure that the door of our garage is always shut, so that Charlie’s precious bike (and his dad’s) are safe and sound.
