The Clean Enough House

by Kristina Chew, PhD on October 13th, 2007

I would say mine is “clean enough.” Tables and shelves tend to get cluttered, there’s always crumbs somewhere (Charlie starting to use the dustbuster has been a good thing), there is always a basket of laundry needing attending. I am not the most supercilious of duster and Charlie never notices when he tracks in leaves, mud, etc.. Our apartment does not sparkle, but it’s passable—-and practicing the piano with Charlie, or helping him sort through his photos to find the one he insists he needs, or hurrying to the International Housework Week I didn’t hurry to find the carpet extension for the vacuum cleaner, replace every sponge in the house and go crazy with the Lysol.

(Nonetheless, for the “it’s all over the carpet!” moment, I have found this FabricLink guide to stains quite helpful.)

Clean enough is good enough for me. Guess our family is not a candidate to try to live in a clean room—-and I’m not even freaked out knowing how many germs are on my keyboard.

I have bookmarked the stain webpage! Thank you in advance.

We have someone who comes in to clean every other week, and we still struggle to be “clean enough”. Having a dog and three boys under the age of four does not make for a sparkling home.

We are trying to leave sippy cups behind, so I’m anticipating a sour milk smell to take over pretty soon.

I get a little concerned about germs on the computer because we all use it. If one of us gets sick, you’ll see me cleaning the keyboard with antibacterial wipes. I get exposed to so many germs, I need to prevent their transmission where I can.

I heard a brilliant article on the radio about someone sticking their keyboard in the washer - it was a controlled experiment!
    Cheers

That FabricLink.com website saved me this summer! Its suggestions worked better than some storebought remedies. I guess I need to worry more about my office computer which belonged to someone before and someone else and…..

Dang! Gurlz! You gals are most definitely not admitted to my place of Autistic Bachelor (non-) Housekeeping!

It’s like ordinary disgusting bachelor non-housekeeping, except much, much, worse.

My cat is starting to drop hints about the clutter, and that he wants me to do something about it.

I’ve been feeling guilty lately: having all three kids in school all day, there is no excuse for my house to not sparkle.

So I’m doing a little bit each day, and spend the rest of my time planning what to do with my kids when they come home. I much prefer that preoccupation!
