They’ll Do It Themselves, Thanks

by Kristina Chew, PhD on March 11th, 2007

That is the title of an article in today’s New York Times about Yaniv Gorodischer, 29, Jason Kingsley, 32, and Raymond Frost Jr., 28. The three men live in a group home in New York; all three have Down Syndrome. Recently they petitioned their Town Board to get a sidewalk on the busy street that they live on. Kingsley’s mother, Emily Kingsley, had written a speech for the three men to read, “just in case.”

“‘“We won’t need it,’” Jason Kingsley is quoted as saying. “We know how to say it.”

I’m looking forward to the day when Charlie tells me “I’ll do it myself, thanks.”
