This Makes the Grinch Look Good: Thieves Rob Group Home

by Kristina Chew, PhD on December 31st, 2006

Thieves took seemingly everything from the group home where six autistic children live in Dallas five days before Christmas ,as reported in the December 30th Dallas Morning News. The children are aged 6 to 13 and are all wards of the state, and the group home is run by the Autism Treatment Center of Dallas.

According to Autism Treatment Center residential coordinator Eulah “Tuffy” Williams, the children “‘don’t have the concept of what happened’”; ‘”"Thank God the kids are unaware of some things,’” notes center director Carolyn Garver. They did note that the children noticed that their TV was missing.

“TVs, toys, movies, pots and pans, coats, clothes, underwear, sheets, towels, even the food for their Christmas dinner” were all stolen, cabinet doors smashed open, drawers and the refrigerator emptied. Did the thieves think the kids would not care?
