Tribunal Rules on Autism Cases after 10 years

by Kristina Chew, PhD on May 7th, 2007

Almost ten years is how long it is alleged to have took for the ACT Discrimination Tribunal to rule on seven complaints for services for autistic children. As noted in the May 7th IBN News (Australia):

ACT opposition leader Bill Stefaniak said it had ruled autistic children had no right to treatment for their autism, arguing that it is an issue of “resource allocation and government budget allocation decisions”.

“The time taken to deal with these complaints makes a mockery of the process when it concerns intervention services for children who are nearly grown up by the time of judgment,” he said.

Ten years to find out if one’s child could receive services? The shortest time any of the complaints took to be finalized was six years, a lifetime one might say in autism years…….

Just because they took so long, I think they should be fined or should pay something out to Someone.

Their karma is going to be in the negative numbers….
