Who’s a big-time name in Autismland?

by Kristina Chew, PhD on June 5th, 2006

Omaha TV station KETV reports that, on Sunday, Big-Time Coaches Help Omaha Raise Autism Funds for the Nebraska Medical Center’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. The “big-time coaches” named were former NFL and college football coach Dick Vermeil and former college basketball coach and current ESPN analyst Rick Majerus.

Autistic high school senior and basketball player Jason McElwain was also present, and mentioned in the second paragraph.

Guess he’s not such a “big-time” name in some circles.

I believe the AUTISM TREATMENT CENTER OF AMERICA whose C.E.O. Raun Kaufman was once autistic could be of tremendous assistance to parents of AUTISTIC children. Maybe your web site could become avehicle for that assistance assuming you are willing to check them out at SONRISE.ORG

Raun Kaufman still owes at least one family an apology for using the murder of a child as an ad for your *cough* treatment.

    Kristina, isn’t the above SPAM?

Mr. Noakes, I and other parents of autistic children, and other autistic adults, have a number of questions and concerns regarding Son Rise and the Options Institute and its views about autism and “treatment” for it. I have indeed reviewed the SonRise website.

Kassiane, we’ll see if there are any more comments in this thread…..

Have you and other parents posed your questions and concerns to the AUTHORS of the Son-RISE program(Raun’s parents) or for that matter Raun himself. Isincerely believe the SON-RISE treatment program stacks up well against programs such as ABA or IBI which appear to emphasize behaviour modification

Further to my previous comments,my advocasy for SON-RISE is in part due to my awareness of the success of aCANADIAN MOTHER of anAUTISTIC child who utilized the program. She has indicated she would be happy to speak to anyone interested in her son’s journey. Her name is LORI MAWLAM of Bothwell Ontario, telephone 1-519-695-5858

Mr Noakes, my husband has attended one of Raun Kauffman’s presentations and we do not believe that Son-Rise is an appropriate therapy for our son. Thanks very much.

    Hey Mr Noakes,

When did it become appropriate for Mr Kaufman to use the murder of a child as advertising?

Ignoring us: doesn’t make autistics go away.
