Who’s got Charlie? Who’s helping my father-in-law? My mother-in-law needs a hand…..
Charlie and autism are at the center of our life. His needs always come first and, thanks to him, I tend to see everything through the lense of autism.
In the past few years and especially in the past few months, Jim and I have been very much feeling that we are indeed members of the “sandwich generation.” Both of my husband’s parents had knee replacement surgery in January; my father-in-law has recovered well, but my mother-in-law’s condition has declined significantly. Both of my in-laws had health problems before they had the surgery–my mother-in-law had a minor stroke a few years ago; my father-in-law has multiple sclerosis; both have long had a great deal of trouble walking, among other health concerns.
AutismVox is a member of the b5media.com network of blogs and today a new blog, GenBetween, is launched. Its author, Elizabeth, writes:
“Parents to the left of me, children to the right, here I am.”
A few years ago, my husband was driving with Charlie and his father and it occurred to Jim that he was the only person without a disability. I am looking forward to reading and sharing on GenBetween indeed.

Thanks, I know it’s not a club that people always look forward to being in, but, let’s make it the best we can.
